About Foca

One of the 12 Ionian city states ....
Foça - or Phocaea - was the largest city state of the ancient Ionian Confederacy.... and as described by the famous historian Herodotus " it is situated under the world's most beautiful skies".
65 km to İzmir, 85 km to Pergamon, 144 km to Ephesus.

Monk Seals ....
A charming seaside town that has not lost its old world atmosphere, Foça's ancient name Pho-caea, was inspired by the numerous seals that inhabited the area. These adorable creatures - among the last school of seals of the Mediter-ranean - have made the nearby uninhabited islands their home.

Steeped in history, Foça houses all the facilities of a modern day town, but at the same time, maintains a unique blend of mythology, arc-haeology and unspoiled nature.

So it's not surprising Foça chose to adopt the seal as its symbol.

Mediterranean climate ....
Foça's temperate Mediterranean climate is main-tained by the gentle sea breezes. This provides ideal conditions for water sports all year round.

The average summer daytime temperature is 30C and the sea 24C.

A haven for vegetarians.... The local fishermen mull over the day's catch as they watch the sun go down. It's about this time their fish can be heard sizzling on Foça's res-taurants' grills. Savour Foça's fresh seafood, virgin olive oil, artichoke, asparagus, wild herbs that create the flavour of Foça.

Foça attracted Herodotus ....
